Minute Musings...Ancient Of Days

Daniel 7:9  "I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did
sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of His head like the pure wool;
His throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire."

Who is God?  Many people claim to know God.   This is a dangerous claim to make for the
Bible tells us in Romans chapter 11, verses 33 & 34, "O the depth of the riches both of
the wisdom and knowledge of God!  How unsearchable are His judgments, and His
ways past finding out!  For who hath known the mind of the Lord?  Or who hath
been His counseller?"  We know only what God has chosen to reveal to us, and nothing
more.  People tend to think that God owes them an explanation as to what He has done,
they could be no further from the truth!  Isaiah 45:9b  "Shall the clay say to him that
fashioneth it, What makest thou?"  God owes no explanation for anything that He
wills to happen.

I think that people forget to whom they are talking with when they come before God.
There is not the reverence that is needed in prayer now a days.  Yes, God wants us to
come to Him, but we need to come with the knowledge that we are entering into the
very presence of the all-consuming God.  In the Old Testament great care was taken
by the High Priest when entering the Holy of Holies, he would be struck dead if any
thing was not done in accordance with God's commands.  Because of Calvary, we do not
have to wait for that one time a year when atonement was made for the sins of the people.
We are admonished in Hebrews 4:16 to "Come boldly unto the throne of Grace, that
we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need."  To come boldly means
that we enter, not prideful, but in humility and reverence, with the knowledge that we are
coming clothed in the blood of the Lamb of God.  We possess nothing that would allow us
entrance into God's presence.  Just as the High Priest could only enter the Holy of Holies
with shed blood of a sacrificial animal as the atonement, it is only by the shed blood of
Christ that we can gain entrance into presence of God.

There is a trend today with humanizing God.  What I mean by this, is that we think
of God in our human terms.  We attribute to Him our emotions, our way of thinking, our
moods! We are bringing the Almighty God of the universe down to our level.  This is
wrong.  God is not controlled by human thoughts, emotions, moods and whims.  Isaiah
55:8  "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,
saith the LORD."  Would we really want a God who is moody like we tend to be?  Or
that changes His plans on a sudden whim?

In humanizing God we strip Him of the awesome power and majesty that is due Him.
This mighty God spoke the universe into existence!  Psalms 33:6 - 9  "By the word
of the LORD were the heavens made:  and all the host of them by the breath of
His mouth.  He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap:  He layeth
up the depth in storehouses.  Let all the earth fear the LORD:  let all the
inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.  For He spake, and it was done;
He commanded, and it stood fast."  What a powerful God we have!  He spoke the
heavens and world with all its wondrous beauty into existence!  God Himself says this
about the heavens and the earth, Isaiah 66:1  "Thus saith the LORD, The heaven
is My throne, and the earth is My footstool:"

How do you view God today?  Do you mistakenly view Him as the "old man that is
upstairs" whose only duty is to meet the needs and whims asked of Him?  I pray not!
I hope today that you worship God, Yahweh, El Shaddai, as the all powerful, holy,
majestic God that He is!

Revelation 19:11 - 13 & 15 - 16  "And I (John) saw heaven opened, and behold
a while horse:  and He that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in
righteousness He doth judge and make war.  His eyes were as a flame of fire,
and on His head were many crowns:  and He had a name written, that no man
knew, but He Himself.  And He was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood:  and
His name is called, The Word of God.  And out of His mouth goeth a sharp sword
that with it He should smite the nations:  and He shall rule them with a rod of
iron:  and He treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
And He hath on His vesture and on His thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS,
AND LORD OF LORDS."

Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise

Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious - Thy great name we praise.

Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
Nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might;
Thy justice, like mountains, high soaring above,
Thy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love.

Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,
Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight;
All praise we would render - O help us to see,
"Tis only the spendor of light hideth Thee!
