One Day At A Time
One day at a time sweet Jesus,
That's all I'm asking of you;
Please give me the strength
To do everyday what I have to do.
Yesterday's gone sweet Jesus,
And tomorrow may never be mine.
Lord, help me today, show me the way,
One day at a time.
(Marijohn Wilkins & Kris Kristofferson)
Psalms 139:9 & 10 "If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost
parts of the sea; Even there shall Thy hand lead me, and Thy right hand shall hold
me."
As imperfect human beings we have a tendency to worry. Concern over important issues
is normal, but the unhealthy worry over things beyond our control drains us of the peace
that our Heavenly Father desires to daily bless us with. To worry over the future deprives
one of the joy and victory God intends for us to enjoy in the present. Matthew 6:34
"Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought
for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."

The grace God promises for your tomorrows is not part of the resources that He supplies
for today! Worrying about a tomorrow that is not even promised to us is pretty senseless.
You are wasting precious time worrying about things that might never be! James 4:14
"Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is
even a vapour that appeareth for a little time, and then is vanished away." We are
also told in Proverbs 27:1, "Boast not thyself of tomorrow: for thou knowest not
what a day may bring forth."
We are living in hard trying times. The burdens of family, finances, employment, and
health can wear us down. Worrying about these things does not provide solutions, it
only makes us weaker, unable to find the strength we need. I like the following quote
from Charles Spurgeon. "Are you mourning over your own weakness? Take courage,
for there must be a consciousness of weakness before the Lord will give thee victory.
Your emptiness is but the preparation for your being filled, and your casting down is
but the making ready for your lifting up." It is not until we acknowledge our own
weakness and the need of God's strength, that He will give it! "One day at a time sweet
Jesus, that's all I'm asking of you..."
Are you still trying to go it alone? Are you failing, weak, discouraged because you can't
seem to find the strength needed for each day? Taking it one day at a time will allow
you to see God's promised provisions for you. Let your testimony echo that of David's in
Psalms 27:1b "The LORD is the strength of my life:"
"Great is Thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see; All I have needed
Thy hand hath provided - Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!" (Thomas Chisholm)
