I do not have to tell you that this world is an evil place! All you need to do is listen to
the news, pick up a paper, or even go to the mall. This world is evil because it is ruled
by Satan, the Prince of Darkness. Ephesians 6:12 "For we wrestle not against flesh
and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the
darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Until the Lord
returns to rule, this world will not be a place of peaceful habitation for the child of
God. But it is not all doom and gloom! Those that have read the Bible know that God
will be victorious, Satan's reign of sin has an end, hallelujah!
So, the question is, how do we overcome evil with good? There is only one way and
that is the Lord Jesus Christ. He has already won the victory. When we live for Jesus,
we are victorious over Satan and evil. It's hard though isn't it, to be kind to those that
unkind to us, to be forgiving to the wicked, to have compassion for the conceited and
high-minded, to be humble before the proud and self-righteous...but this is the life of
the believer who wants to live victoriously in Christ, the one who desires to overcome
evil with good.
I have learned over the years that in order to live this way it requires one thing, and
that is to keep your eyes on Jesus. When you are looking at the Savior, drinking in His
goodness, focusing on His righteousness, you will not be seeing the unkind, wicked,
conceited, high-minded, proud, self-righteous people in your way; you will see sinners
for whom the Prince of Peace shed His precious blood for...you will see a picture of
who you were before you were saved. Ephesians 5:8 "For ye were sometimes
darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light." You can
love these souls, you can do good to them, show kindness...through Christ! Your
response to their sinful ways can be a means of shining the love of Jesus into their
dark hearts.
Remember, that to biblically over come evil with good, you must elevate the Lord
Jesus to His rightful place in your own life. John 3:30 "He must increase, but I
must decrease." Don't try to fight the evil of this world in your own strength, you
will fail, the battle is the Lords. Many times in the Old Testament we read the words,
"The battle is not yours, it is the LORDS."
As we begin another week, remember, the battle is not yours, it is the Lords. Everything
in life has a domino effect; when we do what God asks, good wins. It might not seem
like good has the upper hand all the time, but bare in mind, that we don't understand
the workings of God. All that He has asked of us is that we be faithful and do what is
right.
Rescue the Perishing
Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,
Snatch them in pity from sin and the grave;
Weep o'er the erring one, lift up the fallen,
Tell them of Jesus the mighty to save.
Though they are slighting Him, still He is waiting,
Waiting the penitent child to receive;
Plead with them earnestly, plead with them gently,
He will forgive if they only believe.
Down in the human heart, crushed by the tempter,
Feelings like buried that grace can restore;
Touched by a loving heart, wakened by kindness,
Chords that are broken will vibrate once more.
Rescue the perishing, duty demands it;
Strength for thy labor the Lord will provide;
Back to the narrow way, patiently win them,
Tell the poor wand'rer a Savior has died.
Rescue the perishing, care for the dying:
Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save.
