Minute Musings...Collision

Have you ever been involved in a collision?  Unfortunately I have, and it is a nerve
shattering experience!  There is that first tremendous jolt, then the sound of crushing
metal, then the aftershock of "did that just really happen?"  Thankfully I was able to
walk away without any physical injury...although my daughter was extremely distraught
over her broken finger nail!

Then the investigation begins as to what caused the collision.  They take many factors
into consideration when it comes to deciding who was at fault.  Was there stormy weather?
Were there distractions that either driver was dealing with, such as passengers being
disruptive, cell phone use, unfamiliar roads.  Were the roads icy, snow or rain covered?
Were there mechanical problems with the vehicle?  Was the driver ill, or under the
influence of drugs or alcohol?  There are many things that go into considering who was
at fault in a motor vehicle collision.

Are you aware that we can be involved in spiritual collisions?  One very important thing
to remember when this happens is that we are always at fault!  Spiritual collisions occur
when we stop following the "Map", or the Word of God.  We think we know the way.  In
fact, we might even try to take some short cuts.  May I tell you something...there are no
short cuts to God's will for your life.  We read in Ecclesiastes 2:26, "For God giveth
to a man that is good in His sight, wisdom and knowledge, and joy:"

Each of us are on a path that has been ordained by God.  The tribulations, hardships,
and storms that we each face on our individual paths, God has allowed, because in
His sight these things will bring about in our lives wisdom, knowledge and joy.  When
we are involved in a collision with the will of God, it is because we've allowed the
distractions of the world into our lives, and we've taken our eyes off the road.  We haven't
taken the necessary precautions when we've encountered storms or unsafe roads.  We've
let our spiritual maintenance slide, our Bible reading and prayer time have lost their
priority in our lives and we are not protected the way we think we are.  We attempt short
cuts in order to get around perceived obstacles in the way, instead of sticking closely to the
map provided for us.  We are told in Psalms 119:105 that "Thy Word is a lamp unto my
feet, and a light unto my path."  Are you driving with your spiritual headlights on?

Don't be discouraged today if you've been involved in a spiritual collision.  You have
full insurance!  Psalms 86:5  "For Thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive;  and
plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon Thee."  Take care of the needed repairs
and get back on the right road...the blessings of God and your eternal destination awaits!

Day By Day

Day by day and with each passing moment,
Strength I find to meet my trials here;
Trusting in my Father's wise bestowment,
I've no cause for worry or for fear.
He whose heart is kind beyond all measure,
Gives unto each day what He deems best.
Lovingly, its part of pain and pleasure,
Mingling toil with peace and rest.

Every day the Lord Himself is near me,
With a special mercy for each hour;
All my cares He fain would bear and cheer me,
He whose name is Counselor and Pow'r.
The protection of His child and treasure,
Is a charge that on Himself He laid;
"As thy days, thy strength shall be in measure,"
This the pledge to me He made.

Help me then in every tribulation,
So to trust Thy promises O Lord;
That I lose not faith's consolation,
Offered me within Thy Holy Word.
Help me, Lord, when toil and trouble meeting,
E'er to take, as from a father's hand.
One by one, the day, the moments fleeting,
Till I reach the promised land.
