Do you ever find yourself stressed out because you're trying to please everyone? I saw a
post one day that basically said, that when you try to please everyone you end up pleasing
no one!
I'm slowly learning that there is only one person that we should be focused on pleasing,
and that is the Lord God.
In Deuteronomy 4:9 we read, "Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently,"
There is not enough time in the day to keep myself in line if I'm looking at others, either
for their approval or just because I'm nosy! "Only take heed to thyself," God knows that
we need to be constantly keeping tabs on our own thoughts, motives, actions and words.
This is a full time job, we will not have time to look at others, for any reason! We also
need to be spending time in prayer and fellowship with our Heavenly Father in order to
keep our souls from the dangers and pitfalls of this world.
We please the Lord when we obey His commandments. We displease Him when we live
for self and the pleasures of this world, it is really just that simple. I like Deuteronomy
chapter 6 and verse 18a, "And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight
of the LORD:" This sums up how we should live our lives from day to day. Will it make
us popular with our friends, families and neighbors? No, not all the time...but just keep
in mind who it is that we are trying to please! Please the One who counts and you will
find that the others don't matter anymore!
