I turned on the television this morning to watch the news. In the space of only a 1/2 hour
the following were mentioned. The war in Israel, flooding in California and Ontario, the
earthquake that just hit China, the deadly outbreak of Ebola in 3 West African countries.
Eyes are watching tropical storm Bertha as it heads for Eastern Canada. Severe thunder-
storm watches, tornado watches, mud-slides and fires out of control. Violence is erupting
in various parts of the world, refugees fleeing to Russia, famine...all in all its not a pretty
picture of our world. One can find themselves getting depressed and alarmed, all at the
same time...unless you know what is taking place.
Mark 13: 7 & 8 "And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not
troubled; for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet. For nation
shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earth-
quakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the
beginnings of sorrows."
This world is entering into the "last days" in which we will see such things increasing
in frequency and size. But as Christians, we are not to be alarmed, the verse above tells
us "Be ye not troubled." Why are we instructed not to be troubled by the chaos in
which the world is in? Because for the believer, the child of God, it's an indicator that
our Lord will soon return for us...we finally get to go home! This should be such a
comforting thought! Jesus went to the trouble of telling us this so that we would not
be afraid when conditions deteriorate..."for such things must needs be;" God has
everything in control.
Seeing the decline around us, should send our eyes more to our Heavenly home, and
all the wondrous things that are awaiting us on the other side. John 14:1-3 "Let not
your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's
house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to
prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come
again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."
We have no reason to fear!
Are you watching for the promised return of our Savior, Jesus Christ? God always
keeps His promises. Don't let what is happening in the world panic you, remember,
"This world is not my home, I'm just a passing through."
Acts 1:9 - 11 "And when He (Jesus) had spoken these things, while they (the
disciples and others) beheld, He was taken up; and a cloud received Him out
of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up,
behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of
Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, which is taken
up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen Him go
into heaven." Jesus is returning...are you ready?
