put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face:"
How often are we guilty of singing,
Have Thine Own Way Lord
Have Thine own way Lord, Have Thine own way!
Thou art the Potter, I am the clay!
Mold me and make me, After Thy will,
While I am waiting, Yielded and still.
Adelaide A Pollard
You're probably wondering why I said that we can be guilty when singing this song.
Do we really want God to have His own way? That would mean that we must surrender
the idols that are in our hearts. An idol would be anything that means more to us than
the Lord. Ouch! We are all guilty of having things in our lives that take priority over
God. It might be our jobs, family, sports, hobbies...the list is endless.
These idols not only weaken our fellowship with God, but they can be a stumblingblock
to those around us. They hear us proclaiming that we are Christians, yet they witness
those things in our lives that have the pre-eminence over Christ. We begin to have a
water-downed testimony to those around us! What we say and what we do become two
different things. Our lives have an influence on our children, family, co-workers and
neighbours, and we will be held responsible for our witness before them.
Take a moment today and examine your heart. Are you truly willing to let the Lord
have His way in your life? Are you willing to take away those idols from your heart,
and let the Lord take His rightful place?
Have Thine own way Lord, Have Thine own way!
Hold o'er my being absolute sway!
Fill with Thy Spirit, Till all shall see,
Christ only, always, living in me.
