Minute Musings...Do Not Be Afraid

This phrase, "Do not be afraid" is found 365 in the Bible!  That is one reminder for each
day of the year.  Why do you suppose that it is repeated so much?  I believe it's because
we have to be reminded of this often.  We tend to be fearful don't we.  There is always
something that creeps in and replaced our peace with fear.  Fear can be debilitating, it
causes physical symptoms as well as psychological ones.  Fear drives rational thought
far from us.  Sometimes there are triggers to our fear.  Those that suffer from PTSD deal
with fear and its triggers on a regular basis.  Fear is real.

Isaiah 9:6  "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given:  and the government
shall be upon His shoulder:  and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller,
The Mighty God, The everylasting Father, The Prince of Peace."

Our dear Savior is the Prince of Peace.  When the Prince of Peace enters our hearts,
He ends the reign of fear.  It is the lack of faith on our part that allows fear to take up
residence in our hearts over and over again.  Lets take a moment and look at what
happened to Peter when his faith faltered.  He had just seen Jesus walking towards
them on the water, and Peter desired to walk with Him.

Matthew 14:29 & 30  "And He (Jesus) said, Come.  And when Peter was come down
out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.  But when he saw the wind
boisterous, he was afraid:  and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me."

The peace that Peter had in his heart disappeared when he took his eyes off of the Saviors
face and instead looked at the storm raging around him.  Fear entered and Peter began to
sink in the storm.  Isn't that what happens to us?  We take our eyes off of Jesus, and instead,
focus on the storms of life.  The peace of God is replaced by the fear of the circumstances
which are swirling around us.

But...we are not alone in the storm!  Just as Peter was beginning to sink, he cried for the
Lords help.  Matthew 14:31  "And immediately Jesus stretched for His hand, and
caught him,"  "Immediately" Jesus was there!

Don't let your heart be overwhelmed today with the storm that batters you.  Remember,
the Prince of Peace abides in you;  put your hand in His and let His peace drive away
all fear.

John 14:27  "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you:  not as the world
giveth give I unto you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
