Minute Musings...Living Water

Nothing tastes better on a hot humid day, then to drink a tall glass of ice water.  Those
that know me, know that I love water more than any other drink.  Besides quenching the
thirst, water is vital for your bodily organs to function properly.  According to a study
reported by CBC News in May, 2011, in general terms, the human body can survive
two or three days without water in contrast to 30 to 40 days without food.  Water is
vital to survival.

Were you aware that the "living water" is vital to spiritual survival?  There is only
one source for this water.

John 4:10, 13 & 14  "Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift
of God, and Who it is that saith to thee, give Me to drink;  thou wouldest have
asked of Him, and He would have given thee living water. Jesus answered and
said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:  but whosoever
drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst;  but the water that I
shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life."

Jesus was speaking to a Samaritan woman at Jacob's well on the outskirts of Sychar,
a city of Samaria.  What is our Lord referring to when He speaks of drinking of the
water which He shall give?  He is speaking of the gift of salvation.  People today have
the same problem that this Samaritan woman had, they are seeking for something to
satisfy the longing of their souls.  They look for it in amusements, in relationships,
in possessions, in fame and fortune.  But they still come up empty.  There is nothing
that is in this wicked world that can fill the emptiness that is inside of man.  There
is only one remedy to cure the thirst of the soul, that is the living water that comes
from the Lord Jesus Christ.

Perhaps today you feel that you've lived such a sinful life, that God cannot forgive
you and that He does not offer this gift to you.  It tells us in verse 4 of John chapter
4, that "He must needs go through Samaria."  The Jews and Samaritans were
enemies, no Jew would want to have anything to do with the Gentile Samaritans...
but Jesus did.  He went out of His way because He knew that there was a seeking,
hurting, thirsty soul that needed the gift of "living water" that He had to offer.  He
is still offering this gift today.  Take, drink, this is for you!

Springs Of Living Water

I thirsted in the barren land of sin and shame,
And nothing satisfying there I found;
But to the blessed cross of Christ one day I came,
Where springs of living water did abound.

How sweet the living water from the hills of God,
It makes me glad and happy all the way;
Now glory, grace and blessing mark the path I've trod,
I'm shouting Hallelujah every day!

O sinner, won't you come today to Calvary,
A fountain there is flowing deep and wide;
The Savior now invites you to the water free,
Where thirsting spirits can be satisfied.

Drinking at the springs of living water,
Happy now am I, my soul they satisfy;
Drinking at the springs of living water,
O wonderful and bountiful supply.
