Minute Musings...The Blame Game

There was a cute cartoon today on Facebook that made me chuckle.  An older woman
was looking into a mirror and she said, "They sure don't make mirror's the way they
use too, look at all the wrinkles!"  After I finished laughing, it hit me about what a sad
example this was of the mindset we all have.  When we don't like what we see, we blame
anything other than ourselves.  We do that all the time don't we, we don't like the grey
hair and wrinkles...the mirrors fault;  we don't like the number on the scales...the fault
of everyone else that shoved the food in our mouths;  we lost our temper...they provoked
me; and the list could go on and on.  We are experts at shifting the blame to others, but
the reality is that we are the ones at fault.

We do this with the Word of God as well.  We don't like what we read because it pokes
us with the sharp edge of the truth.  We begin to point to other things as the reason
why we sin.  This was what Adam and Eve did when they partook of the forbidden fruit
from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.  They saw their sin for what it was,
but instead of acknowledging it and then repenting, they passed the blame!

Genesis 3:12 & 13  "And the man (Adam) said, The woman whom Thou gavest
to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.  And the LORD God said
unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done?  And the woman said, The
serpent beguiled me, and I did eat."

Oh, we are so good at shifting the blame.  Have you noticed that this comes naturally?
You watch young children playing;  it's not long before there are squabbles erupting,
and they always have a reason for their outburst...they took my toy, they hit me...
Teaching children to take responsibility for their own actions is hard work because
it goes against their human, sinful nature.  Unfortunately a lot of adults still have not
learned this lesson...it goes against our sinful nature.  We read in Jeremiah 17:9,
"The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicket:  who can know
it."  The next verse tells us who does know it, "I the LORD search the heart, I
try the reins,"  Nothing is hid from God, so then why do we expend the energy trying
to convince Him that our sin is not our fault?

The Bible is referred to as the sword...why?  A sword cuts, and so the Word of God
cuts, and it reveals what is inside.  Hebrews 4:12  "For the word of God is quick,
and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the
dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a
discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."  When we read the Word of
God, it shows us plainly our sin.  Do we like this?  No, no one likes to see their
faults.  This is usually when the blame game kicks in!  However, we need to be honest
with ourselves, and let God show us our sin.

The life of a victorious Christian is not found in the sinful habit of blame.  Today,
let God use the Bible as a mirror in your life;  let Him show you the sin that lays
within your heart, take responsibility for it, repent of it and move on to a day of
victory in Christ your Lord and Savior.

Psalms 19:7 - 11  "The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul:  the
testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.  The statues of the
LORD are right, rejoicing the heart:  the commandment of the LORD is pure,
enlightening the eyes.  The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever, the
judgments of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether.  More to be
desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold:  sweeter also than honey
and the honeycomb.  Moreover by them is thy servant warned:  and in
keeping of them there is great reward."

Minute Musings...Substance and Evidence

Hebrews 11:1  "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of
things not seen."

What is "faith?"  You hear the expression a lot in Christian circles, but just what does
it mean.  The dictionary refers to faith as "trust or reliance,"  but in what is this trust
and reliance based?  The Bible tell us in Hebrews 11 verse 6 "But without faith it is
impossible to please Him (God) for he that cometh to God must believe that He
is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him."  It is fairly simple
therefore isn't it, our faith (trust or reliance) must be placed in God, for this faith is
what will please Him.

Why does it please Him?  It pleases God because a sinners first connection with Him
comes through faith!  Ephesians 2:8  "For by grace are ye saved through faith:
and that not of yourselves:  it is the gift of God."  Our whole relationship with God
comes through the portal of faith in Him.

We find in Luke chapter 7, the account of the woman which came to Jesus and washed
His feet with her tears, wiped them with her hair and then anointed them with a costly
ointment.  The Pharisees were astonished when Jesus said this to the woman, (verses
48 - 50) "And He (Jesus) said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.  And they that sat at
meat with Him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also?
And He said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee;  go in peace."   The only
thing that the woman did for salvation, was to have faith in God, (Ephesians 2:9 tells
us that our faith is "Not of works, lest any man should boast.") This faith, that was
all of God and nothing she did for herself was the entrance to a new life in Christ.

Faith doesn't have just one purpose for the believer.  We are saved by faith, and then
we are to walk by faith.  2 Corinthians 5:7  "For we walk by faith, not by sight."
The "walk" or life of a child of God is contrary to the world.  The world says to show
me then I will believe.  The Christian believes without seeing.  A life in Christ, is a
life of faith, not sight.  This is another part of why faith pleases God;  faith relies on
God and not on self!  Faith is such an important part of our life that it is mentioned
as part of the armour that we are to put on so that we "May be able to stand against
the wiles of the devil."  Ephesians 6:11.  Verse 16 mentions faith, "Above all,
taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts
of the wicked."

How is your faith today?  First of all, in whom have you placed your faith?  It tells us
in Psalms 118:8  "It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man."
Man will fail you.  Why would you want to put your faith and trust in someone who is
not Holy, Just, Infinite, All-wise, All-knowing and Righteous. Our faith "Should not
stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God." 1 Corinthians 2:5

Check your faith today, then pick up your shield and start living a life that will please
God!  Hebrews 10:38  "Now the just shall live by faith:"

My Faith Looks Up To Thee

My faith looks up to Thee,
Thou Lamb of Calvary, Savior divine!
Now hear me while I pray, take all my guilt away,
O let me from this day, be wholly Thine!

May Thy rich grace impart,
Strength to my fainting heart, my zeal inspire;
As Thou hast died for me, O may my love to Thee,
Pure, warm and changeless be, a living fire!

While life's dark maze I tread,
And griefs around me spread, Be Thou my guide;
Bid darkness turn to day, wipe sorrow's tears away,
Nor let me ever stray, from Thee aside.

When ends life's transient dream,
When death's cold sullen stream, shall o'er me roll;
Blest Savior, then in love, fear and distrust remove,
O bear me safe above, a ransomed soul!

Minute Musings...Peace Be Still

Most news channels have had extensive coverage of the massive blizzard that is pounding
the east coast of the US and Canada.  The warnings ahead of its arrival prompted a
frenzy of activity at stores everywhere as people scrambled to prepare for this epic storm
that was bearing down on them.  The thing that I find odd is why aren't people prepared
in the winter for the possible storms that could strike, instead of waiting until the last
minute to stock up on essentials that they will need.  Everyone should always have on
hand batteries, toilet paper, candles, bottled water and food supplies, especially when you
live in a region where storms like this are possible.

As Christians living in a land that is "storm" riddled, are you prepared?  Or do you wait
until a storm hits, then flounder around trying to find the necessary resources to see you
safely through? The storms in our lives are allowed by God to make us into a stronger,
more vibrant testimony of His sustaining grace, love and power; and to deepen our own
faith and trust in His divine guidance and care for us.  The storms may take us by surprise,
but not God.

Mark 4:35 & 36  "And the same day, when the even was come, He (Jesus) saith unto
them, (disciples) Let us pass over unto the other side.  And when they had sent away
the multitude, they took Him even as He was in the ship.  And there were also with Him
other little ships."

The Lord Jesus knew when He suggested setting sail that night that they would be engulfed
in a violent storm.  However please note one very important thing...Jesus was with them.
He did not send them off by themselves to face this danger, He stayed right there in the
boat with them!

Mark 4:37 & 38  "And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into
the ship, so that it was now full.  And He (Jesus) was in the hinder part of the ship,
asleep on a pillow;  and they awake Him, and say unto Him, Master, carest Thou
not that we perish?"

Don't think for one moment that Jesus didn't know what was going on, He knew.  The
disciples panicked in this storm;  watching the waves engulf the ship, their first thought
was that the Lord didn't care for them.  Don't judge them too harshly for this because
isn't this is our first reaction many times to the storms that we find ourselves in.  The
waves of despair, anguish, pain, and hopelessness flood into our lives and we immediately
accuse the Lord of not caring for us!

Mark 4:39 - 41  "And He arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea,
Peace, be still.  and the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.  And He said unto
them, Why are ye so fearful?  How is it that ye have no faith?  And they feared
exceedingly, and said one to another, what manner of man is this, that even the
wind and the sea obey Him?"

Sometimes in the midst of a blustery storm that is whipping us unmercifully around,
we spend all our energy trying to hang on instead of calling on the One who can calm
it!  He who created the storm, has the power over the storm.  However, there might be
times when He allows the storm to continue for a while.  This is when we have to remember
to do what ships do in a storm...drop anchor and just wait it out.  That anchor will keep you
from drifting...that anchor is Christ!   Hebrews 6:19  "Which hope we have as an anchor
of the soul, both sure and stedfast,"

Are you prepared?  Are you equipped with what you need to endure the storms of life
...faith? Or is the Lord saying to you today, "Why are ye so fearful?"  Remember, we
have the presence of Christ, the One who cares for us, He is with us always. Don't despair,
trust the One who has the power over every storm, the One who can bring the calm to your
fearful and trembling soul.

Master, The Tempest Is Raging

Master, the tempest is raging, the billows are tossing high!
The sky is o'er shadowed with blackness, no shelter or help is nigh;
Carest Thou not that we perish?  How canst Thou be asleep,
When each moment so madly is threat'ning a grave in the angry deep?

Master, with anguish of spirit I bow in my grief today;
The depths of my sad heart are troubled, O waken and save I pray!
Torrents of sin and of anguish sweep o'er my sinking soul!
And I perish, I perish dear Master, O hasten and take control!

Master, the terror is over, the elements sweetly rest;
Earth's sun in the calm lake is mirrored, and heaven's within my breast.
Linger, O blessed Redeemer, leave me alone no more;
And with joy I shall make the blest harbor, and rest on the blissful shore.

The winds and waves shall obey Thy will, Peace by still!
Whether the wrath of the storm-tossed sea,
Or demons, or men, or whatever it be,
No water can swallow the ship where lies
The Master of ocean and earth and skies!
They all shall sweetly obey Thy will, Peace be still, peace be still!
They all shall sweetly obey Thy will;  peace, peace, be still!

Minute Musings...The Master's Touch

The Touch Of The Master's Hand

Twas battered and scarred, and the auctioneer
thought it scarcely worth his while to waste much time on the old violin,
but held it up with a smile; "What am I bidden, good folks," he cried,
"Who'll start the bidding for me?" "A dollar, a dollar"; then two!" "Only
two? Two dollars, and who'll make it three? Three dollars, once; three
dollars twice; going for three.." But no, from the room, far back, a
gray-haired man came forward and picked up the bow; Then, wiping the dust
from the old violin, and tightening the loose strings, he played a melody
pure and sweet as caroling angel sings.

The music ceased, and the auctioneer, with a voice that was quiet and low,
said; "What am I bid for the old violin?" And he held it up with the bow.
A thousand dollars, and who'll make it two? Two thousand! And who'll make
it three? Three thousand, once, three thousand, twice, and going and
gone," said he. The people cheered, but some of them cried, "We do not
quite understand what changed its worth." Swift came the reply: "The touch
of a master's hand."

And many a man with life out of tune, and battered and scarred with sin,
Is auctioned cheap to the thoughtless crowd, much like the old violin, A
"mess of pottage," a glass of wine; a game - and he travels on. "He is
going" once, and "going twice, He's going and almost gone." But the Master
comes, and the foolish crowd never can quite understand the worth of a soul
and the change that's wrought by the touch of the Master's hand.

Myra Brooks Welch

This poem "The Touch Of The Master's Hand" has been one of my favorites for
years.  It depicts so clearly the change that occurs when the Master's hand is
applied to a situation.  There are many instances in the Bible where we find recorded
cases where Jesus, the Master, applied His touch and lives were changed.  Here are
just a couple.

Man cleansed of leprosy - Matthew 8:2 & 3  "And, behold, there came a leper
and worshipped Him, saying, Lord, if Thou wilt, Thou canst make me clean.
And Jesus put forth His hand, and touched him saying, I will; be thou clean.
And immediately his leprosy was cleansed."

Peter's mother-in-law, sick with fever - Matthew 8:14 & 15  "And when Jesus
was come into Peter's house, He saw his wife's mother laid, and sick of a fever.
And He touched her hand, and the fever left her:  and she arose, and ministered
unto them."

The touch of the Master's hand brought healing.  The Gospel is filled with stories
of the people who were healed by the touch of Jesus.  As miraculous as these healings
were, there is still a greater miracle that occurs when Jesus touches a heart.  Only
His touch can bring spiritual healing to a sin sick soul.  His touch heals the heart that
was crippled with sin.  Isaiah 53:5  "But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities:  the chastisement of our peace was upon Him;
and with His stripes we are healed."

Have you felt the Master's touch on your life?  There is no other touch in the
universe that can change the direction of your soul.  Psalms 41:4  "I said, LORD,
be merciful unto me:  heal my soul;  for I have sinned against Thee."

He Touched Me

Shackled by a heavy burden,
'Neath a load of guilt and shame;
Then the hand of Jesus touched me,
And now I am no longer the same.

Since I met this blessed Savior,
Since He cleansed and made me whole;
I will never cease to praise Him,
I'll shout it while eternity rolls.

He touched me, O, He touched me,
And O, the joy that floods my soul;
Something happened, and now I know,
He touched me, and made me whole.

Minute Musings...Abundance

We never like to hear reports of shortages, whether it be of food, medical resources,
oil production, or other necessities of life, shortages often mean eventual financial ruin,
heartache, and in some cases, death.  This world is in a critical state, with shortages
becoming more common by the day.

However, for the child of God, we have a divine assurance that our lives can be
abundant in Christ.  John 10:10  "The thief cometh not but for to steal, and to kill,
and to destroy:  I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it
more abundantly."  Jesus Christ came so that we might have an abundant life through
Him!  Trying to live the Christian life in our own strength will not give us the abundant
life that God wills for His child.

Look at the first part of the verse again, "The thief cometh not but for to steal, and
to kill, and to destroy:"  The thief is referring to Satan.  Satan does not want the child
of God to have an abundant life, so he does everything in his power to steal our joy in
the Lord;  he cannot steal our salvation, but he wants to kill and destroy our testimony
before the lost.  He does not want us in any way to live an abundant life in Christ!

What is the abundant life that the Lord desires for us to enjoy in Him?  Its a life that is
abundant in His joy, faithfulness, help & deliverance, direction and provision, to name
just a few.

God's joy:  Psalms 16:11  "Thou wilt shew me the path of life:  in Thy presence is
fullness of joy:  at Thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

God's Faithfulness:  Jeremiah 29:11 - 13  "For I know the thoughts that I think
toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an
expected end.  Then shall ye call upon Me, and ye shall go and pray unto Me,
and I will hearken unto you.  And ye shall seek Me, and find Me, when ye shall
search for Me with all your heart."

God's help:  Psalms 63:7 & 8  "Because Thou hast been my help, therefore in
the shadow of Thy wings will I rejoice.  My soul followeth hard after Thee:  Thy
right hand upholdeth me."

God's direction:  Isaiah 58:11  "And the LORD shall guide thee continually,
and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones:  and thou shalt be like
a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not."

God's provision:  Philippians 4:19  "But my God shall supply all your need
according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus."

God is holding out to us today the opportunity of experiencing an abundant life in
Him!  So many Christians today are beaten down, discouraged and ready to quit
because their strength is failing;  look again at the last verse above, God will supply
all our need, whether its strength, encouragement, more faith...whatever our need, it
can be ours by Christ Jesus.  We must, as David said in Psalms 63:8, follow hard
after the Lord.  Spend time in Bible study and prayer, make the Lord and His will
the number one priority in your life.

Don't let your own foolish pride make you into a spiritually weak Christian.  Submit
yourselves to God;  you already have Christ in you, through salvation, but now allow
Him to live through you, and start enjoying the abundant life He is waiting to share!

New Life

Gone is the guilt of my sin,
Peace is now reigning within,
Since I believed, pardon received,
Happy, so happy I've been.

New life in Christ! Abundant and free!
What glories shine, what joys are mine,
What wondrous blessings I see!
My past with its sin,
The searching and strife,
Forever gone, there's a bright new dawn,
For in Christ I have found new life!

Minute Musings...It's Just A Moment

Have you ever heard the saying, "This too shall pass?"  I love this because it reminds me
that trials and trouble are just for a moment in time, it will soon pass.  When we are in the
midst of hard times it's very hard to keep this thought upmost in our minds.  The worries
and cares of the day, the ever mounting pressures that seem to be upon us, health concerns,
family and personal problems all blot out the fact that this life is but a vapor and will soon
be past.  James 4:14  "Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow.  For what
is your life?  It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth
away."

The longing of my heart more and more is to have this turbulent journey over, and finally
reach my eternal home.  There is a song based on a poem by an unknown author that's
entitled, "Finally Home."  The powerful words of the chorus go through my mind often.

Just think of stepping on shore and finding it Heaven,
Of taking a hand, and finding it God's,
Of breathing new air and finding it celestial,
Of waking up in Glory and finding it home.

What tremendous blessing the child of God has in store for the future!  Not only does
Heaven contain untold beauty and wonders, the reunion with loved ones, the freeing
from this body of sin and decay...but we have a indescribable future forever in the very
presence of our blessed Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  The One Who's love sent Him to
Calvary for us!  We will spend forever praising and worshiping our glorious King.
Revelation 22:4 tells us, "And they shall see His face:"  Do you really grasp that wondrous statement! We shall see the face of GOD.

We see in Exodus chapter 26 the careful instructions given to the Israelites concerning
the making of the veil to separate the Holy of Holies from the rest of the Tabernacle.  No
one but the High Priest was permitted within that veil, for that was where God dwelt.  In
Exodus 33:20 we find that God hid Moses in the rock while He passed by because, "Thou
canst not see my face:  for there shall no man see me, and live."  However, when we
finally reach home, we SHALL SEE THE FACE OF GOD!

Take heart today, what you are going through is just for a moment in time.  It soon
shall be a thing of the pass!  Don't give up...Glory awaits!

John 14:3  "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive
you unto Myself:  that where I am, there ye may be also."

Revelation 22:7a  "Behold, I come quickly:"

Over The Sunset Mountains

Over the sunset mountains,
Someday I'll softly go,
Into the arms of Jesus,
He who has loved me so.

Toiling will all be ended,
Shadows will flee away;
Sorrow will be forgotten,
O what a wonderful day!

Over the sunset mountains,
Heaven awaits for me;
Over the sunset mountains,
Jesus my Savior I'll see.

Minute Musings...The Mercies Of God

Have you ever watched a fire spread?  It does not take long for a spark to ignite and to
consume everything that it touches.  Fire is destructive, it brings quick devastation and
death.  Fire in the Bible represents God's judgment, it's God's flame of truth applied to
a situation.  God's judgment is always right and always deserved.  Psalms 119:137
"Righteous art Thou, O LORD, and upright are Thy judgments."

Some people argue that a loving God can't be a judging and condemning God.  May I
tell you that a loving God has to be a judging and condemning God!  Some of you might
be taken back by this statement, but allow me to explain. God's judgments upon us
is always completely justified.  We have no argument before a righteous and holy God.
When God's word, the flame of truth is applied to our sinful hearts, we always fall short,
we have sinned and therefore must receive the consequence;  and the consequence of
sin is death.  Romans 6:23  "For the wages (the price, consequence) of sin is death:
but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

Yes, with God's righteous judgment always comes His unmerited mercy.  There is a
beautiful picture of this found in Exodus chapter 3.  Here we find Moses keeping his
father-in-law Jethro's sheep.  As he was tending the flock, God appeared to him in a
burning bush.  Verse 2, "And the angel of the LORD (God) appeared unto him in
a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush:  and he looked, and behold, the bush
burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed."  Can you put yourself in the
place of Moses and just imagine his astonishment as he beheld this marvelous sight?
Here was a bush that was burning, yet it was not being consumed by the fire!  This is
beautiful picture of God's judgment brought, but His mercy shown.

Friend do you realize that God's judgment was brought upon Christ (who died in our
stead), but His mercy shown to us!  We who deserve only death as payment for our
sins, have been given the great gift of mercy from Almighty God, because He loved us.
It explains this wonderful truth in Ephesians 2:4 - 7  "But God, Who is rich in mercy,
for His great love wherewith He loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath
quickened (made alive)  us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved:) and hath
raised us up together and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
that in the ages to come He might shew the exceeding riches of His grace in His
kindness toward us through Christ Jesus."

How thankful are you today for the mercy of God?  Because of His great mercy, we
have been spared the judgment and penalty of sin...death, and have been given the
wonderful gift of salvation, fellowship and an eternity in His loving presence.  How
very blessed we are!  Lamentations 3:22 & 23  "It is of the LORD'S mercies that
we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not.  They are new every
morning:  great is Thy faithfulness."

The Mercies Of God

The mercies of God!  What a theme for my song,
O, I never could number them o'er;
They're more than the stars in the heavenly dome,
Or the sands of the wave beaten shore.

They greet me at morn when I waken from sleep,
And they gladden my heart at the noon;
They follow me on into shades of the night,
When the day with its labor is done.

His goodness and mercy will follow me still,
Even onto the end of the way;
I have His sure promise and that cannot fail,
That His mercy is mine every day.

For the mercies so great, what return can I make?
For mercies so constant and sure?
I'll love Him, I'll serve Him with all that I have,
As long as my life shall endure.

Minute Musings...Detours

Psalms 43:3  "O send out Thy light and Thy truth:  let them lead me; let them bring
me unto Thy holy hill, and to Thy tabernacles."

I don't know about you, but I do not like detours!  They take you from off the road that
you know will get you to your destination, and you end up in unfamiliar territory, unsure
of where you are.  There a detours in our spiritual journey as well.  However unlike the
detours we are used to, that take us around unknown obstacles in the distance, these
spiritual detours lead to downfall and ruin.

When we are saved we enter into a journey that the Bible explains is narrow and straight.
Matthew 7:13 & 14  "Enter ye in at the strait gate:  for wide is the gate and broad
is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
Because strait is the gate and narrow is the way which leadeth unto life, and few
there be that find it."  We have one destination, Glory!  Now, God has many different
experiences for each of His children, many different paths for each of us, but our road is
straight, leading to our eternal home.  Trouble comes when we think that we can take a
short cut, a detour from God's planned way.

If you've never read the book, "Pilgrims Progress" by Helen L. Taylor ( adapted from
John Bunyan's classic work ), I would encourage you to find a copy and read it.  I read
it many times as a child, and still enjoy reading it today!  In it we find the story of the
little pilgrim, "Christian" who is on is journey to the Celestial City.  He only runs into
problems when He leaves the Kings narrow path he is traveling on, and wanders off
onto roads that promise a quicker route or better conditions.  Getting into serious danger
is the result of his detours.

We too will suffer untold dangers when we think in our own wisdom that we know a
better way than the Lord's.  When we think we know better than God, we abandon His
promised divine guidance for our journey.  Psalms 32:8  "I will instruct thee and
teach thee in the way which thou shalt go:  I will guide thee with mine eye."  God\s
judgment and guidance is righteous;  why would we choose to go off on our own,
trusting in our own flawed wisdom?

Determine today to follow God's way.  His way is the only way to true joy and peace
on this journey home.  Psalms 86:11  "Teach me Thy way, O LORD;  I will walk
in Thy truth:  unite my heart to fear Thy name."

Each Step I Take

Each step I take my Savior goes before me,
And with His loving hand He leads the way.
And with each breath I whisper, "I adore,"
O what joy to walk with Him each day.

At times I feel my faith begin to waver,
When up ahead I see a chasm wide;
It's then I turn and look up at my Savior,
I am strong when He is by my side.

I trust in God, no matter come what may,
For life eternal is in His hand.
He holds the key that opens up the way,
That will lead me to the promised land.

Each step I take I know that He will guide me,
To higher ground, He ever leads me on.
Until someday the last step will be taken,
Each step I take, just leads me closer home.

Minute Musings...It's Not An Easy Road

The Christians journey through this wilderness of life is not an easy road.  We endure
many bumps along the way.  Trials, tribulations, burdens and heartaches are our ever
present traveling companions.  Yet despite all these obstacles, the Word of God entreats
us in Luke 9:23  "And He (Jesus) said unto them all, (His disciples) If any man will
come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me."

There are three important steps in this verse that I would like to look at today.  The
first one is "deny himself."  Our old human nature does not like to deny itself!  We
prefer to indulge in what makes us feel good, happy, and promotes our interest.  When
we put Christ first in our lives, self takes the back seat.  The Lord's will and not our
own becomes predominate in our lives.  We cannot follow Jesus without denying our-
selves.  John 3:30  "He (Jesus) must increase, but I must decrease."  The Holy Spirit
cannot fill up a heart that is already filled with self.

Secondly, we must take up our cross daily.  There is one important thing I've learned
about this step...we cannot do it in our own strength.  So many Christians get discouraged
in this life because they are trying to carry the burdens and navigate the tribulations
all on their own.  God has given us two very important resources to help.  Ephesians
3:16  "That He (God) would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be
strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man:"  God wants to grant us
His divine strength for our journey!  Not only is His strength available to us, but He
has also instructed us in 1 Thessalonians 5:11 "Wherefore comfort yourselves
together, and edify one another, even as also ye do."  We are to help one another,
to encourage one another along this difficult journey we are on.  And notice, it is
daily that we are to take up our cross.  Don't quit.  I've been there on those days when
you just want to throw in the towel and give up, but don't.  There is promised blessing
and victory for those who keep on.  James 1:12  "Blessed is the man that endureth
temptation:  for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the
Lord hath promised to them that love Him."

And the last step is to follow Christ.  Who are you following?  Are you following man,
his teachings and philosophies?  It is so easy for the worlds way of thinking to creep
into our lives.  We must always stay on guard against anything that goes against the
way of Christ.  We are warned about this very thing in 1 John 4:1  "Beloved, believe
not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God;  because many false
prophets are gone out into the world."  Show discernment in who you follow!  If
what they are saying does not line up with the Word of God, do not listen to them!
The first you must follow is Christ.

Deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Christ.  It's not an easy road, but we
have this precious promise in 1 John 4:4  "Ye are of God little children, and have
overcome them:  because greater is He (God) that is in you, than he (Satan) that
is in the world."  We can be overcomers because of the inner dwelling of our Great
God...Whom has already overcome!

It's Not An Easy Road

It's not an easy road we are traveling to Heaven,
For many are the thorns on the way:
It's not an easy road but the Savior is with us,
His presence gives us joy every day.

It's not an easy road, there are trials and troubles,
And many are the dangers we meet;
But Jesus guards and keeps so that nothing can harm us,
And smooths the rugged path for our feet.

Though I am often footsore and weary from travel,
Though I am often bowed down with care;
A better day is coming when home in the glory,
We'll rest in perfect peace over there.

No, no, it's not an easy road,
No, no, it's not an easy road;
But Jesus walks beside me and brightens the journey,
And lightens every heavy load.

Minute Musings...A New Song

What's the song of your heart?

There is a song in my heart today,
Something I never had;
Jesus has taken my sins away,
O say, but I'm glad!

Wonderful, marvelous love He brings,
Into a heart that's sad;
Through darkest tunnels the soul can sing,
O say, but I'm glad!

                                            James Patrick Sullivan

The Psalmist David said this in Psalms 109:22 "For I am poor and needy, and my
heart is wounded with me."  The sad reality is that we live in a world filled with
wounded hearts.  This life is not easy, it's filled with sorrow, fear, burdens, tribulation,
loss and sin.  It leaves the heart sick and wounded, and in need of the healing balm that
only comes from above.

My friend, God knows our foolish and sinful hearts, Psalms 69:5  "O God, Thou
knowest my foolishness:  and my sins are not hid from Thee."  When we repent of
our sin, and turn our wounded hearts over to the loving tender care of the Savior, He
puts a new song in our hearts!  Psalms 40:2 & 3  "He brought me up also out of an
horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my
goings.  And He hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God:
many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord."

Cursing God for what befalls them is the reaction of the unsaved.  The songs of their
hearts do not bring pleasure to the hearer.  The torment of their souls is echoed in the
beating rhythm of their sick sorrowful, wounded hearts.  On the other hand, the believer
who can sing through the trials because their faith is anchored to the Rock of their salvation,
will have a vibrant testimony to those around them.

Are you singing a new song today, the song of the redeemed?  Or are you still mouthing
the words to the songs of the "old man?"  It is so easy to get caught up in the drama of
complaint, bitterness and anger that permeate this old sinful world.  But as children of
God, we have a new song to sing.  It's a song that gives praise to God our Redeemer and
King for all that He has done for us!  He has taken our sin away!  O, say but I'm glad!

Psalms 30:4  "Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of His, and give thanks at the
remembrance of His holiness."

Singing I Go

The trusting heart to Jesus clings,
Nor any ill forebodes,
But at the cross of Calvary sings,
Praise God for lifted loads!

The passing days bring many cares,
"Fear not," I hear Him say,
And when my fears are turned to prayers,
The burdens slip away.

He tells me of my Father's love
And never slumbering eye;
My everlasting King above
Will all my needs supply.

When to the throne of grace I flee,
I find the promise true,
The mighty arms upholding me
Will bear my burdens too.

Singing I go along life's road,
Praising the Lord, praising the Lord;
Singing I go along life's road,
For Jesus has lifted my load.

Minute Musings...Freedom

How would you like to be under a death penalty for something that you could do nothing
about?  May I tell you that the world is under this death penalty!  It tells us in the Old
Testament book of Ezekiel 18:20 that "The soul that sinneth, it shall die,"  There are
a great many people who believe that they can and must keep the Old Testament law!
But what was pointed out by my Pastor on Sunday, the law was given to show that man
cannot keep it!  With our inherited sin nature, we are incapable of fulfilling all the law,
and the law demands death.

Jesus Christ brought a new radical way of thinking about the law.  The religious leaders
of His day were aghast at what was being taught by Christ and His followers.  Galatians
5:18  "But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law."  The leaders did not
know what to do with this new teaching.  They did not comprehend that the man before
them, Jesus Christ, was the Son of God, and that He had come to fulfill the law of the
Old Testament and to bring about a new freedom to God's children.  Galatians 3:13
"Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law (death) being made a curse for
us:  for it is written, cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:"

Jesus Christ paid the penalty of the law, death, for us!  It is only through His shed blood
on the cross of Calvary that we can be free from the law and have liberty and freedom
in Him.

Free from the law, O happy condition,
Jesus hath bled, and there is remission;
Cursed by the law and bruised by the fall,
Grace hath redeemed us once for all.

Now are we free, there's no condemnation,
Jesus provides a perfect salvation;
"Come unto Me," O hear His sweet call,
Come, and He saves us, once for all.

                                                 Philip P. Bliss

Do you realize today the freedom that you have in Christ?  This is not a freedom to
go about doing what you want, thinking you are free from the consequences of your
actions however!  It explains in Romans chapter 6 that we are removed from being
under the law when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, and placed under grace.
This however does not give us the "freedom" to sin.  Verses 1, 2a, 14  "What shall
we say then?  Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?  God forbid.
For sin shall not have dominion over you:  for ye are not under law, but under
grace."  The wonderful grace of Jesus has given us a life of freedom in Him.  We
are free from the curse of the law, free to live victoriously in Him.  John 8:33  "If
the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed."

How are you living today?  Are you still trying to keep the law?  It is impossible.
When you sin in one area the Bible tells us you are guilty of breaking all the law!
James 2:10  "For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one
point, he is guilty of all."  God knew that man was not able to keep the whole law,
so He provided the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE, His Son Jesus.  Life in Christ
is a life of liberty and freedom that can be lived only in and through His great grace!
Romans 8:1 & 2  "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in
Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.  For the law of the
Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death."

The Gospel Of Christ (Freedom)
Galatians Song

From chains we've been set free, released from slavery,
In Grace and Mercy from Jesus Christ;
We'll stand before the throne, through Grace and Faith alone,
Living in victory - transformed. Alive.

Love the Gospel, know It's treasure,
Let It fill you, hear It's cry.
Share the message, live It's power,
The Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Crucified with Christ, we claim His righteous name,
Firm on His promise we take our stand.
We will defend the Truth, in love and gratitude,
The Holy Words of God - by His command.

Love the Gospel, know It's treasure,
Let It fill you, hear It's cry.
Share the message, live It's power,
The Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Freedom, freedom, freedom in the Gospel of Christ.
Freedom, freedom, freedom through salvation in Christ.

Minute Musings...I Need You

"Is prayer your steering wheel or your spare tire?"  Another thought provoking quote from
Corrie ten Boom.  If anyone knew the power of prayer it was this dear lady.  She and her
family were arrested by the Nazis on February 28, 1944 for providing refuge to Jews who
needed a place to hide.  Corrie and her sister Betsie eventually ended up at the Ravensbruck concentration camp where Betsie died on December 16th.  Before her death Betsie said
this to her beloved sister, "There is no pit so deep that He (God) is not deeper still."  How
did these two ladies have such an unshakable confidence in God?  It is because they had
a relationship with Him.  There is only one way to really get to know someone, and that is
to spend time with them, talking and sharing your feelings and thoughts.  Corrie and Betsie
did not have "religion," they had a "relationship" with their blessed Savior and Lord.

How do you view prayer?  Is it something you revert to when things start going wrong in
your life?  Is it a "safety net" that you grab on to when your plans goes awry?  If it is, then
you have the wrong view of what prayer is.  Prayer is spending time with the One who
loves us more than we can comprehend.  God desires our fellowship!  Jeremiah 33:3,
"Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which
thou knowest not."  We can only know God by spending time with Him.  Psalms 145:18
"The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon Him, to all that call upon Him in
truth."

I would like to take a look at 3 verses in 1 Thessalonians 5.  Verses 16 to 18.  "Rejoice
evermore.  Pray without ceasing.  In everything give thanks:"  Look at what prayer
is surrounded by...rejoicing and giving thanks.  These are to be key components in our
prayer life.  Prayer is to be part of our worship towards God.  We rejoice in God our
Savior, and we give thanks for all His great blessings.  Its a packaged deal.

Years ago I came across this little help when it comes to a fully surrendered prayer life.
P.R.A.Y.  P-praise, R-repent, A-ask, Y-yield.  I always try to remember this order in
prayer.  Starting with praise centers your heart and thoughts on who God is, His greatness,
majesty, power, love, faithfulness.  Praising God for who He is puts us into the state of
worship needed for proper fellowship.  When we see God for who He is, we see ourselves
for our failings, our sin.  Repenting of sin allows communion with our Savior.  Psalms
66:18  "If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me." It is only then we
can ask God for the help needed.  Closing our prayers with a heart yielding to His will
and direction in our lives will produce His peace in our hearts.  Philippians 4:4, 6 & 7,
"Rejoice in the Lord always:  and again I say, rejoice.  Be careful for nothing;  but
in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be
made known unto God.  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding,
shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

Corrie penned the now famous book, "The Hiding Place" the story of what happened
to her and her family during the war.  She had a relationship with the Lord that was
deeper then many of us will know.  Persecution will deepen a bond with God.  The
Psalms are filled with prayers that are saturated with praise, repentance and pleas
for help!   I have always thought of Corrie when I read this verse in Psalms 32:7
"Thou art my hiding place:  Thou shalt preserve me from trouble;  Thou shalt
compass me about with songs of deliverance."  The Psalmist David and Corrie both
knew the power and importance of prayer!.

How is your prayer life?  Are you enjoying the Lord your God to the fullest, or is it
just a dead ritual?  If your prayer life is in ruins then your spiritual life will suffer the
same fate.  Corrie and Betsie ten Boom KNEW their Lord...do you?

Minute Musings...Assurance

It's human nature to want to be reassured of things, whether it's a relationship or a
purchase, our minds rest easier when we have been reassured of its lasting quality.
Would you buy a house without the assurance from the inspector that all is as it is
being represented?  We also need to be reassured because we tend to forget.  Just
as our children need constant reassurances of our love and care for them, so we need
the repeated assurances from our Heavenly Father of His love and care for us.

When it comes to the Word of God and the promises made, we have the assurance of
Almighty God that we can trust fully what it tells us!  God cannot lie, so we can rely
on His word.  Titus 1:2  "In hope of eternal life, which God that cannot lie,
promised before the world began;"  We can take what God says as absolute truth!

I've made up just a small list of some things that God has assured us of in His Holy
Word.

His love:  1 John 3:16  "Hereby perceive we the love of God, because He laid down
His life for us:"

His help:  Isaiah 41:13  "For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying
unto thee, Fear not:  I will help thee."

His guidance:  Proverbs 3:5 & 6  "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart:  and
lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and
He shall direct thy paths.

His wisdom:  James 1:5  "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that
giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not;  and it shall be given him."

His peace:  John 14:27  "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you:  not
as the world giveth, give I unto you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let
it be afraid."

His presence:  Hebrews 13:5b  "I will never leave leave thee, nor forsake thee."

His salvation:  1 John 5:13  "These things have I written unto you that believe
on the name of the Son of God:  that ye may know that ye have eternal life,
and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God."

His return:  John 14:1 - 3  "Let not your heart be troubled:  ye believe in God,
believe also in Me.  In my Father's house are many mansions:  if it were not so,
I would have told you, I go to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare
a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself:  that where I
am there ye may be also."

What a wonderful blessing God has given to us through the assurances in His Word!
We never need be in doubt of His love, help, guidance, wisdom, presence, salvation and
promised return!  We can boldly journey through each day knowing that God is in
complete control of all things.  Are you in need of reassurance today? Take refuge and
delight in the wonderful promises that your Savior has bestowed upon you.

Blessed Assurance

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit washed in His blood.

Perfect submission, perfect delight!
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight!
Angels descending bring from above,
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Perfect submission - all is at rest,
I in my Savior am happy and blest;
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.

Minute Musings...Resting

Here is another wonderful quote from Corrie ten Boom.  "If you look at the world, you'll
be distressed.  If you look within, you'll be depressed.  If you look at God,  you'll be at
rest."

Our eyes are a gateway.  What we allow into them will affect our outlook.  The world has
absolutely nothing to offer the child of God.  It is full of sin...deceit, fornication, strife,
discontent, unlawfulness, and the list goes on and on.  Why would a Christian spend their
time looking at the things of this world?

1 John 2:15 & 16  "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.  If
any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For all that is the world,
the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father,
but is of the world."  There is a song that was penned by Lanny Wolfe that goes like this,

"The world may try to satisfy that longing in your soul,
You may search the wide world over, but you'll be just as before;
You'll never find true satisfaction, until you've found the Lord,
For only Jesus can satisfy your soul."

What do we find when we look within?  We find that we are sinners, not worthy to lift
our eyes to God.  We have nothing good in us that would compel the Lord God of the
universe to think on us.  There is nothing we can cling to, we have no righteousness to
claim as our own.  Looking at ourselves and our sin can depress us!  So we need to turn
our gaze upon the One who holds the answer for our sin condition, our only source of
help comes from above!

Isaiah 64:6  "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are
as filthy rags:  and we all do fade as a leaf;  and our iniquities, like the wind,
have taken us away."

So we can't look around us, we can't look within us...that leaves looking up, up at our
wonderful Lord and Savior!  When we gaze upon Him, take in His beauty, majesty,
greatness, love, grace and mercy, the things that would distress and depress fade
away.

Hebrews 12:2  "Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith:"  If we
want to experience the rest of the Lord, then we must keep our eyes on Jesus.  Matthew
11:28  "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you
rest."

Where is your gaze today?  To be at rest in the Lord you must be gazing upon Him!

Jesus, I Am Resting, Resting

Jesus, I am resting, resting, in the joy of what Thou art;
I am finding out the greatness of Thy loving heart.
Thou hast bid me gaze upon Thee, and Thy beauty fills my soul,
For by Thy transforming power, Thou hast made me whole.

O how great Thy loving kindness, vaster, broader than the sea!
O how marvelous Thy goodness, lavished all on me!
Yes, I rest in Thee, Beloved, know what wealth of grace is Thine,
Know Thy certainty of promise, and have made it mine.

Simply trusting Thee, Lord Jesus, I behold Thee as Thou art,
And Thy love, so pure, so changeless, satisfies my heart;
Satisfies its deepest longings, meets, supplies its every need,
Compasseth me round with blessings, Thine is love indeed!

Ever lift Thy face upon me as I work and wait for Thee;
Resting 'neath Thy smile, Lord Jesus, earth's dark shadows flee.
Brightness of my Father's glory, sunshine of my Father's face,
Keep me ever trusting, resting, fill me with Thy grace.
