Minute Musings...A God At Hand

Jeremiah 23:23  "Am I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off?"

When Almighty God asks a question, it is not because He doesn't know the answer,
because God knows all.  When He asks a question, it is for us to consider the answer.
He wants us to think and then take the appropriate action required.  So what is God
wanting us to think about with His question in the above verse?  The following verse
give us the answer...God never asks a question without supplying the answer!

Jeremiah 23:24  "Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him?
saith the LORD.  Do not I fill heaven and earth?  saith the LORD.

There is no running from God.  The natural man tries to run from God.  They try to
hide themselves in the business of their work, family, good works, jobs, hobbies...they
run, but they cannot hide.  God knows just where they are regardless of their efforts to
evade Him.  So why run, why try to hide?  Many believe that if they turn to God they
will have to give up things...and they're right!

They will have to give up their lives for the life of the cross.  Matthew 16:24 - 26
"Then said Jesus unto His disciples, If any man will come after Me, let him deny
himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.  For whosoever will save his life
shall lose it:  and whosoever will lose his life for My sake shall find it.  For what
is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?  Or,
what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?"  Satan has convinced people that
life consisting of this worlds pleasures is what they need to find peace and happiness,
but remember Satan is the father of lies.  True peace and happiness comes only when
we surrender our lives to the cross work of Jesus Christ.

They will also have to give up their wills for the will of the Father.  Matthew 6:19 - 21
"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt,
and where thieves break through and steal:  but lay up for yourselves treasures in
heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break
through nor steal:  for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."  Our
wills are innately selfish, we desire only what will benefit us.  This is the exact opposite
of the Fathers will.  To lay up treasure in heaven means to invest prayer, compassion,
love, time and yes, perhaps money and your possessions in the lives of others.  It means
looking at the eternal instead of the temporal, giving up what would benefit you, for what
will benefit the ministry of the Gospel.

Are you trying to run from God today?  Do you name the name of Christ, but refuse to
take up the cross and follow His will for your life?  You will never find true peace in a
life of hide and seek with God.   A life of true blessing will only come when you stop
running and surrender to a life of victorious living in the will of your Heavenly Father.
Matthew 6:33  "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness and all
these things (your daily provisions) shall be added unto you."

Make Me A Stranger

Make me a stranger on earth, dear Savior,
Make me a stranger more like Thee.
Help me keep my focus on heavenly treasures,
And not on earthly things may it be.

Lord, I've found myself loving earthly treasure:
Simple pleasures taking Your place.
Nothing can measure to heavenly treasures:
Hearing "Well done," and seeing Your face.

Lord, lead me onward as a pilgrim,
Bound for heaven never to roam.
Make me a stranger on earth, dear Savior,
Till I see my heavenly home.
