Minute Musings...A Son-Beam

Have you ever stumbled around in the dark trying to find a light?  If you're like me, you
probably make contact with some hard objects before you find the light-switch!  How
wonderful it is to find that light and see the darkness instantly vanish.

John 8:12  "Then spake Jesus again unto them, (the scribes and Pharisees) saying,
I am the light of the world:  he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but
shall have the light of life."

As a born again child of God, we have that "Light of life," the Lord Jesus Christ
living in us, and we no longer walk in the darkness of sin and eternal death.  Jesus
goes on to say in John 9:5  "As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world."
Now, we all know that the Lord Jesus returned to Heaven 2000 some odd years ago...so
that leaves the question, what has happened to the "Light of Life?"  Take a look at
Matthew chapter 5 verse 14, "Ye are the light of the world."  How did we become the
light of the world?

Sitting in space, 384,400 km from earth is a cold, dry orb referred to as the moon.  The
surface of this planet is strewn with rocks, craters and dust particles.  The moon has no
atmosphere, therefore it cannot sustain life.  The moon's diameter is 3,444 km, which is
only 27% of the earths diameter, and compared to the diameter of the sun at 1,391,684
km, is but a speck in the vastness of space.  When we look up at the nights sky and see the
shining moon, we are in fact seeing the reflection of the sun.  The moon is incapable of
producing any light, it acts only as mirror, reflecting the light from the life giving sun
that inhabits our galaxy.

We are not the "Light of Life",  we cannot give spiritual life to anyone, but we are a
light in this world.   Like the moon, we can reflect the light from it's true source, the
Lord Jesus Christ.  In Matthew 5:16 Jesus admonishes us, "Let your light so shine
before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is
in heaven."  What do we reflect?  We should be reflecting by our works, the goodness,
love, mercy and kindness of our Savior.  Our way of life, speech, dealings with others
should all point to Jesus.  In verse 15 of this same chapter it tells us not to put our lights
"Under a bushel, but on a candlestick" so that it can "Give light unto all that are
in the house."  Our light is the testimony of our Savior to the unsaved.

How is your reflection today?  Is it brightly shining, pointing everyone you come into
contact with to the Savior?  Or has your reflection become marred with the sins of this
world;  your light so dimmed that it points only to the emptiness of a Christ-less eternity?
Paul stated this in Ephesians 5:8, "For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye
light in the Lord:  walk as children of light:"  As long as we are turned fully towards
the Lord, we will be reflecting the life-giving Son to this lost and dying world.

A Sunbeam

Jesus wants me for a sunbeam,
To shine for Him each day;
In every way try to please Him,
At home, at school, at play.

I will ask Jesus to help me,
To keep my heart from sin;
Ever reflecting His goodness,
And always shine for Him.

A sunbeam, a sunbeam,
Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.
A sunbeam, a sunbeam,
I'll be a sunbeam for Him.
