Minute Musings...Wonderful Words

The history of this world is cloaked in words that have made a direct impact on the course
of humanity.  There is a power in words, a power that is often overlooked.  A person, or a
society can be swayed into action or defeat by a spoken word.  One of the greatest orators
of the 20th century was Sir Winston Churchill.  It is said of him that he possessed a voice
strong and reassuring.  This voice on June 18th, 1940, buoyed up Britain during some of
her darkest hours.  "Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves,
that if the British Empire and its Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still
say, 'This was their finest hour.' "

No one will ever forget the electrifying words of John F. Kennedy, as he took the oath of
office as the 35th President of the United States of America on January 20, 1962.  "My
fellow citizens of the world:  ask not what America will do for you, but what together we
can do for the freedom of man."  And then there is the famous "Abolition Speech" given
by William Wilberforce on May 12, 1789 in the British Parliament.  "I take courage.  I
determine to forget all my fears, and I march forward with a firmer step in the full
assurance that my cause will bear me out, and that I shall be able to justify upon the
clearest principles, every resolution in my hand, the avowed end of which is, the total
abolition of the slave trade!"

While these and many other famous speeches have propelled men and women onto
great things, none of these words give the power of life!  None of these words have
the power to take a soul destined for an eternity in Hell, wash away his sin, and give
him instead an eternity enjoying the delights of Heaven, and in the presence of a loving,
merciful Savior.

Paul and Silas in Acts 16:31 spoke these words, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ,
and thou shalt be saved,"

Paul in Romans 10:9, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus,
and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou
shalt be saved."

Paul in Ephesians 2:8 & 9, "For by grace are ye saved through faith;  and that
not of yourselves;  it is the gift of God:  Not of works, lest any man should boast."

And the words of our blessed Lord and Savior in John 3:3 & 16  "Jesus answered
and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again,
he cannot see the Kingdom of God.  For God so loved the world, that He gave
His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but
have everlasting life."

It is the Word of God that has the power to change lives.  These are the wonderful
words of life, the words that we should be teaching our children, committing to our
memory, meditating on, living our lives by.  It is these words that will fill your mind
when tribulation knocks at your door.  When death is standing by your bedside, it
is not the words of Winston Churchill that you will cling to, but the precious promise
of Psalms 23:4, "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;  for Thou art with me;  Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort
me."

I encourage you today to put your trust in the wonderful words of God, not of man.
God word will stand forever and will never fail you.  John 6:63  "The words that I
speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life."

Wonderful Words of Life

Sing them over again to me, wonderful words of life;
Let me more of their beauty see, wonderful words of life;
Words of life and beauty, teach me faith and duty;
Beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life;
Beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life.

Christ the blessed One, gives to all, wonderful words of life;
Sinner list to the loving call, wonderful words of life;
All so freely given, wooing us to Heaven;
Beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life;
Beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life.

Sweetly echo the gospel call, wonderful words of life;
Offer pardon and peace to all, wonderful words of life;
Jesus only Savior, sanctify forever,
Beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life;
Beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life.
